"Reveal" is the name of the new programme by German drummer Mareike Wiening and her US quintet, which was nominated for Band of the Year at the German Jazz Awards in 2022. The music is inspired not only by the influences of the Big Apple, but also by Wiening's former home: Scandinavia. A subtle, melodic work of art full of nuanced and varied sound poems, sometimes chamber music, sometimes playfully waltzing, then again gripping with grooving improvisation. The musical dialogue between soloist and accompaniment is a further characteristic of the band: the give and take, the emotional reaction or the creative and unexpected surprises that arise through spontaneity and from the moment: "Wiening has put together a truly transatlantic jazz project. Each of her pieces is a complete, sophisticated, elegant work of art." (JazzTimes) The multi-award-winning musician lived in New York for many years and established herself in the New York jazz scene. She has given concerts at the Blue Note Jazzclub, the Winter Jazzfest New York and Carnegie Hall. She has performed on stage with John Zorn, Ben Wendel and Dan Tepfer, among others. Concerts have taken her all over Europe, North and South America. Born in Franconia, she teaches percussion at the Musikhochschule in Zurich and lives in Cologne.
"Future-orientated, fresh and presented with pure honesty" (New York City Jazzrecord)
"With her pieces, Wiening is a remarkably independent composer who extends bebop to free playing forms and masters the most sophisticated odd metres with aplomb." (Frankfurter Allgemeine) -

Frizzles - Improvisation theatre
Th 16. 05. 202420:00Normal price € 18,– / Reduced € 14,–Spontaneous theatre by all means
Everything happens in the moment, just like in everyday life, and the Frizzles love to create new things and surprise each other and the audience. The focus is on the creativity of the moment and humour. "We are often asked: How do you do it? Don't you have any stage fright? The answer is: No, we never know what's coming, so we can't forget any lines." The art of improvisation is to keep a clear head and be ready for whatever comes. At Frizzles, comedy, music, acting, singing and movement theatre come together. It's the mix that makes it work. Lights on, music off! From current events, the interjections and ideas of the audience and the interplay between colleagues, "Frizzles" conjure up a top-class evening of theatre for you. The world has never seen or heard anything like it - the acting, rhyming, dancing and, above all, singing is absolutely spontaneous. No task is too difficult, no path too far - the Frizzles perform in all emotional and weather conditions. They use every known genre - or they simply invent something completely new together with our audience... Frizzles love music more than any other ensemble. From A for aria to I for Indian fertility dances, F for fan choirs, M for moon music and Z for circus tunes. They plunge headlong into unknown adventures and make music in all registers. No two evenings are the same, and we are delighted to have a growing fan base that never misses one of them!

Jazz in Bilk Weekend!
Jazz LatinoViento Terral is a quintet of internationally renowned musicians who are all deeply rooted in the current global Latin and jazz scene.
Viento Terral" is originally a maritime term. For this unusual, surprising, innovative band, however, it stands for the earthy colours of the percussion instruments, the sparkling spray of the rhythm section and, of course, for the soul of the trombone - real wind power!
Viento Terral: that is deep calm as well as excitement and explosion, that is modern jazz sensibility and deep appreciation of Latin traditions.
"Viento Terral" is also the name of the second track on the debut album "eh 'neeky!". The follow-up album with guest star Bob Mintzer was released in February 2023.

Botticelli Baby love experimentation and creative friction. With an almost meticulous attention to detail, the musicians' collective handles stylistic contrasts and contradictions in their Essen-based Outer Rim. Botticelli Baby liberate jazz from its elitist headiness and punk from its canned beer-stained grubby image. Enriched with elements of blues, folk, funk, Balkan and pop, the result is a highly explosive fusion, which conveniently comes with a fitting name: Junk - a mix of jazz and punk, with which Botticelli Baby have quickly gained a stable reputation as one of the most unconventional and exciting formations in Germany and beyond. Just in time for their 10th anniversary, Botticelli Baby are now really letting it rip
This summer, Düsseldorf will experience a completely new music festival and the Jazz-Schmiede will be a part of it. Under the name Lovebird, various music genres will be presented and other art forms will be integrated. Jazz takes centre stage and is the basis for a wealth of new sound mixtures: jazz and hip-hop, jazz and electro as well as indie, funk and soul. The aim is to create a festival from an expanded range of music and additional fields of creativity, which, like a harmonious work of art in itself, encourages people to participate, listen, watch and reflect. In short: a feast for the senses.
