Jazz and world music in the Hofgarten
Jazz and world music for everyone!
Four open-air concerts at the music pavilion between the theatre and Schloss Jägerhof. The traditional series has been running since 1978 and in the 48th year of the format, which is known far beyond the city limits, the name still says it all: the selection of bands once again thrives on the exciting variety between contemporary jazz and musical excursions into exciting musical cultures.

Matthias Nadolny Quartet
The perfect soundtrack for a summer afternoon in the park: four musical friends meet to improvise with relish: ruggedly elegant, ironically melancholic, arctic-caribbean, in intoxicating loneliness and lyrical chaos. A meeting of strong musical personalities, contemporary German jazz at its best.

VICKI KRISTINA BARCELONA BAND
NEW YORK
The New York VKB Band brings its very own approach to the music of Tom Waits to the stage - powerful, playful and full of character. At the centre are three extraordinary musicians: Rachelle Garniez, Amanda Homi and, as the current tour guest, US guitarist and singer-songwriter Kirsten Thien.
Female bands are still underrepresented in the rock and pop business. The VKB Band is setting a clear example here: Three experienced female artists, all multi-instrumentalists and storytellers, combine their musical power to interpret the often dark, quirky and poetic songs of Tom Waits in their very own way. VKB also want to show the influence of co-author Kathleen Brennan, Tom Waits' wife, in their interpretations.
Everything fits together here, a multicultural adventure that is by turns beautiful, funny, disturbing and poignant.
All three musicians are firmly rooted in the New York scene as multi-instrumentalists and storytellers. With a broad horizon of experience and stylistic openness, they move confidently between roots rock, soul, vaudeville and blues. Kirsten Thien brings her powerful voice and her proximity to American blues and soul to the trio - a perfect complement to the versatile sound of the VKB Band.
Incidentally, the band's name is a reference to Woody Allen's film Vicky Cristina Barcelona - there as here: three women and a complicated love affair. In this case: to the music of Tom Waits. The result is a musical adventure that can be beautiful, shrill, touching and sometimes disturbing - but always with humour, soul and attitude.
