The Transorient Orchestra, the soundtrack of the Ruhr region, is celebrating its 20th anniversary. To mark the occasion, two orchestras are presenting a joint concert, both of which have been honoured for their many years of pioneering work: The NRW Youth Jazz Orchestra received the WDR Jazz Prize in the "Young Jazz Artists" category and the Transorient Orchestra in the "Music Cultures" category.
This collaboration, which was realised for the first time in 2017, brings together western big band jazz and Middle Eastern and Oriental music. The best up-and-coming jazz musicians in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia meet musicians from different cultural backgrounds from the greater Ruhr area. They have their roots in Turkey, Iran, Tunisia, Syria and Germany.
The line-up includes western instruments as well as oriental ones; they sing in Arabic and Turkish. Pieces from the repertoire of the Transorient Orchestra were arranged for both formations by the artistic management team of the NRW Youth Jazz Orchestra.

We are a jazz club, please note that only a limited number of seats are available. More tickets are sold - especially for highlight concerts - than seats can be offered. Tickets entitle to admission and are also valid for standing room. There is no entitlement to a seat. It is advised to arrive early to reserve the seat of your choice.

Jugendjazzorchester NRW trifft Transorient Orchestra
Das Transorient Orchester bringt den Sound des Ruhrpotts auf die Bühne. Im Jugendjazzorchester versammeln sich junge Jazz-Talente aus ganz Nordrhein-Westfalen. Treffen beide Ensembles aufeinander, entsteht ein einzigartiges Konzerterlebnis.
Seit 2017 kommen sie regelmäßig zusammen und bilden zusammen ein Riesen-Ensemble. Das Transorient Orchester, bestehend aus Künstlern aus dem Ruhrgebiet, vereint vielfältige kulturelle Wurzeln: iranische Santur, persische Oud, arabische Nay und Darbuka treffen auf westlichen Bigband-Sound und Harmonik. Das Jugendjazzorchester ist im klassischen Jazz zuhause und probten nur wenige Male mit den Stücken des Transorient Orchesters. Eine spannende Herausforderung mit der neuen Intonation und Rhythmik des Orient für die jungen Wilden. Beim Konzert in der Jazzschmiede Düsseldorf im April 2024 traten dann die 30 Musikerinnen und Musiker gemeinsam auf die Bühne. Dieses musikalische Aufeinandertreffen ist kein einfaches Anpassen der einen Seite an die andere, sondern ein gegenseitiges Beantworten. Die orientalische Musik wird in den Jazz übersetzt und umgekehrt. Durch den Wechsel innerhalb der Ensembles klingt das Programm von dieser Fusion bei jedem Auftritt ein bisschen anders.
