Anna Galtschenko – Selah Quintet
Sensitive, versatile and highly expressive. Together with her Selah Quartet, Anna Galtschenko navigates the tension between compositional structure and improvisation, opening up new sonic spaces whilst viewing her voice as an instrument that transcends words and language.
The repertoire combines her own compositions with works by Kenny Wheeler, Carlos Aguirre and Andrés Beeuswaert. Inspired by artists such as Richie Beirach, Norma Winstone, Maria João and Tatjana Parra, Galtschenko blends the chamber-music sound of ECM jazz with Latin American-influenced vocal improvisations to create music that speaks its own distinctive musical language.
A delicately balanced interplay of intimacy and openness – voice and instruments on an equal footing.
‘New Faces’ is the Jazz-Schmiede’s series showcasing emerging artists, presenting young talents twice a month – and perhaps the big names of tomorrow!
