Cine 1833 Album Release Concert

Guitarist and composer Philipp van Endert has discovered the unique soundscape of his jazz trio Cartouche in collaboration with the DKN String Quintet. His new album, Cine 1833, which is released today, reflects precisely this musical vision. Whilst his previous album, *Moon Balloon*, captivated audiences with its grand orchestral sound, the new production deliberately embraces a more intimate, chamber-music aesthetic: In collaboration with the string quintet of the Deutsche Kammerakademie Neuss (DKN), a work has emerged that is as finely nuanced as it is atmospherically rich, and which can now be experienced live on stage.
Philipp van Endert’s distinctive compositions meet Peter Hinderthür’s sophisticated and richly textured arrangements. The result is a fascinating dialogue between the jazz trio and the string quintet, characterised in equal measure by musical depth and playful lightness.
The recordings captivate with their lyrical melodies, subtle harmonies and intricately woven arrangements. Rhythmically sophisticated structures blend with the organic interplay of the musicians, who had already performed together on stage on several occasions before entering the studio. Hovering over it all is the characteristic poetry of van Endert’s compositions and his guitar playing. Jazzthetik magazine aptly described his tone as “a guitar sound so gentle and organic that it seems not to have been played by a human being, but to have grown of its own accord after a warm summer’s rain”.
