Andreas Schaerer & Daniel García Diego
A voice capable of anything – and a pianist who knows no bounds: two of the most original musicians on the European jazz scene come together as a duo.
Andreas Schaerer, born in 1976 in the Swiss canton of Valais, is one of the most exciting vocalists of our time. With his sextet ‘Hildegard lernt fliegen’, the quartet ‘Out of Land’ and collaborations with Bobby McFerrin, Emile Parisien and Michael Wollny, he has won, amongst other awards, the BMW World Jazz Award and the ECHO Jazz Award for Best International Singer. He is equally successful as a composer: his symphonic works have been performed at venues including the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and the Philharmonie in Essen.
Daniel García Diego, born in Salamanca in 1983 and trained at the Berklee College of Music under Danilo Pérez, is one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Spanish jazz. His playing blends classical elegance, flamenco flourishes and modern jazz harmonies into a style of music in which stylistic boundaries are no longer discernible. With his trio, he has released three albums on ACT Music, most recently *Wonderland*.
In the duo, a love of improvisation, poetry and a childlike sense of wonder come together – an evening full of surprises.
