Next Generation BigBand - JJO NRW & Challenger Camp
Two big bands, concentrated sound and fresh energy: the JugendJazzOrchester NRW (JJO NRW) here under Stephan Schulze meets the big band of the JJO Challenger Camp of the Landesmusikakademie NRW, under Marc Doffey for this occasion - a brand new format that will start for the first time in 2026 and is set to grow into a permanent fixture of jazz promotion in NRW in the long term. Both ensembles bring together selected young musicians from all over North Rhine-Westphalia and the neighbouring regions. The Challenger Big Band shows that even the next generation is playing at an incredibly high level - simply too young for the JJO.
The final concert brings both ensembles together on stage for the first time: the Challenger Big Band presents the results of its intensive work phase before the JJO NRW continues the evening. The premiere is the prelude to further performances in changing line-ups - the format thus opens up the opportunity for new young musicians to become part of this intergenerational cooperation.
New Faces is the newcomer series at the Jazz-Schmiede and presents young talents twice a month and perhaps the big names of tomorrow!
