open excess
The trademark of the combo "open excess" is a bubbling joy of playing paired with a lot of humour. The three musicians first came together for the RoboLAB Festival 2021 at Odonien in Cologne. They discovered their shared fascination for music that is created in the moment. "open excess" play original compositions in the tradition of Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter and Roy Hargrove.
Pianist and composer Lucca Keller is a colourful character on the NRW jazz scene. People know him. He is a stylish border crosser who likes to break free from harmonic guidelines, as he proves on his current solo CD "mood of regrowing". The list of his collaborations is endless. Bassist Torben Schug studied jazz and popular music in Enschede, Amsterdam and Cologne. His main focus is to give people access to music. As bassist of the Ricciotti Ensemble in Amsterdam, he is committed to bringing music to places where there is otherwise no direct access to music, e.g. hospitals, prisons, asylum centres, kindergartens and public squares. He has toured the Netherlands, Turkey and Russia with the orchestra. Till Menzer is a busy percussionist on the Cologne scene. Menzer studied jazz and traditional oriental percussion at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Weimar and at the ITÜ-Istanbul. His band projects, the Horst Hansen Trio, FL!M, Naheli and Isaac Vacuum, have taken him all over Europe for several years.
New Faces and the particularly favourable ticket prices are possible thanks to the generous support of the Sparda-Bank West Foundation
