Martin Schulte Quartet
Cologne-based guitarist Martin Schulte has put together his dream band, strong characters and some of the most renowned players on the German scene, who feed the bandleader's music with their inexhaustible energetic creativity, allowing Schulte's compositions to sound like a true collective effort.
The quartet's music pulsates, swings, rocks, bubbles and literally explodes with energy, while in the next moment it flows lightly and airily, creating its very own modern sound that is deeply rooted in the jazz tradition.
"Martin Schulte has made a name for himself as a composer, session player and bandleader, and has done so in a very pleasant, almost reserved manner: his musical approaches are not bold, they are organic, his virtuoso playing is idiosyncratic, his tone tasteful and warm. Schulte, who was born in Duisburg in 1979, is not one of those soloists who make a big fuss - he often starts his choruses in an almost restrained manner, then gradually breathes more and more life into his motifs and lines - and lets them fly. This has been thrilling audiences and the media alike for a few years now." Lothar Trampert, JAZZTHETIK
