As every year in January, the Folkwang Jazz Orchestra makes a rousing guest appearance at the Schmiede - a good tradition since 2011! The formation, which performs in a classic big band line-up, consists of students from the Folkwang University of the Arts and plays swinging, powerful and contrasting jazz by renowned composers and arrangers from the history of the big band. The music ranges from traditional to contemporary and more orchestral sounds, whereby the high standard of the renowned training centre in Essen guarantees a compact, dynamic but also subtle and differentiated ensemble sound as well as original and creative individual solo performances.

We are a jazz club, please note that only a limited number of seats are available. More tickets are sold - especially for highlight concerts - than seats can be offered. Tickets entitle to admission and are also valid for standing room. There is no entitlement to a seat. It is advised to arrive early to reserve the seat of your choice.
