Four open-air concerts at the bandstand between the Schauspielhaus and Jägerhof Castle. This long-standing series has been running since 1978, and even in its 49th year, the name of this event – known far beyond the city limits – says it all: once again, the line-up thrives on the exciting mix of contemporary jazz and musical excursions into fascinating musical cultures.

Tom van der Geld & The Albuquerque Dreamers
The American Tom van der Geld is not only an internationally renowned jazz musician and a pioneer on his instrument, who has played with many of the ‘greats’ of jazz. He is also known for having taught for almost 30 years as a professor at the conservatoires in Mannheim and Cologne. Together with his Albuquerque Dreamers, he invites you on a musical journey.
The Albuquerque Dreamers are an extraordinary ensemble who create a unique musical universe through their multi-layered original compositions and a deep reverence for the traditions of country, western swing, Americana and folk. Their sound combines the tonal depth of a Bill Frisell and the compositional sophistication of Scandinavian artists such as Esbjörn Svensson with a creative free spirit that breaks with and redefines existing genre conventions. The band comprises top-class musicians, all of whom can look back on an impressive musical history.
At the helm is Tom van der Geld, a pioneer of the modern jazz vibraphone, who made music history as early as the late 1970s with groundbreaking albums on ECM.
Through their music, The Dreamers pay tribute to the luminaries of the Western swing and country genres, whilst simultaneously breaking free from the genre’s clichés and delving into new, unexpected soundscapes. Improvisation plays a central role in this, making every concert a unique experience. The musicians’ sound is as vibrant as the landscapes they depict in their compositions – a musical road trip that connects the past with the present, opening up new horizons along the way.
Juliana da Silva
It was not until 2008 that Juliana da Silva formed her own band – which is surprising, given her background. The São Paulo-born musician had been singing all her life. Singing was such a natural part of her life that she never regarded it as a special talent and therefore initially had no desire to turn her gift into a career. In 1991 she moved to Germany, where, at the Jazzkeller in Frankfurt, the saxophonist Tony Lakatos first took notice of Juliana da Silva. Together they enjoyed great success at festivals in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Moscow.
Alongside her own interpretations of Brazilian classics by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Baden Powell and Ivan Lins, Juliana da Silva will present hidden musical gems by fellow Brazilian musicians, as well as her own compositions, which bridge the genres of bossa nova, pop and jazz.
